Week 1 of VALORANT Masters Tokyo is underway and it didn't take long for the first monstrous plays to hit the servers.
More than just incredible feats of skill, some are feeling themselves and aren't shy to express themselves live on stage in front of the roaring crowd. Among them is Evil Geniuses player Kelden "Boostio" Pupello, who scored the first ace of the event and the sweetest reaction to his pop-off.
The Ace
In the group stage opener of Group B between the North American team Evil Geniuses and the Turkish squad from FUT Esports, EG took a decisive 13-5 victory on Split and put their opponents on match point.
With the match going to Lotus in the important sixth round with the score sitting at 3-2 for FUT and both teams on a buy round, Boostio took the stage. While FUT correctly reads A and expects the Killjoy player's whereabouts, a clutch flash by Ethan opens Boostio up to go for a well-timed swing onto qw1.
Now fully aware of which angle the threat is coming from, Boostio baits the angle and lets ATA KAPTAN into over-peaking the angle, isolating him in the process without any chance of a refrag and securing spike.
Presumably because he now has a safe angle on the spike, FUT seems to expect that he'll slow down, but he finds the perfect timing to push while both of his opponents are throwing out utility.
Once again, he can isolate the angle and kill both opponents one after another. The last frag now is almost a bit of a steal as he kills moji with his Nanoswarm while Ethan gets into a firefight with the Turkish player. Easy ace and worth.
As it turned out, it was an important round as well as EG only narrowly ended up beating FUT on Lotus, with this gun round making all the difference in the momentum of the map.
The cutest reaction
"Yeah, Boostie! Let's go!" EG Head Coach Christine "potter" Chi celebrates after Boostio finishes the last kill. Boostio himself is just as elated, starting off with the tried and true "SHEESH" though many octaves higher than one might usually encounter it.
"Yes! Yes! I'm so good! I'm so good!" the North American player continues, pounding his chest in celebration before going in for the fist bump with his fellow teammate.
Carried by the momentum, Boostio put on a clinic, top fragging with over 10 kills more than the next scoring player and finishing at an impressive 46-30-8 KDA over the entire series. EG have continued their streak and qualified for the playoffs, beating the South Korean team DRX in a clean 2-0.
VALORANT Masters Tokyo is one of the VALORANT Champions Tour’s global events leading into VALORANT champions in August. Twelve teams from all over the world qualified through their domestic leagues for a shot at international glory and a prize pool of $1,000,000 USD.
You can catch all the live action on Twitch, with the group stage concluding tomorrow, leading into the playoffs that will run until June 25 - when it will conclude in the Grand Final at Makuhari Messe.
