Forget Black Ops 6, Call of Duty players still want MW2 remastered

Despite Modern Warfare 3's map pool and the promise of great things with Black Ops 6, CoD fans still pine after MW2 remastered.

Who gives a hoot that Black Ops 6 is embarking on a new era of Call of Duty? Especially when we can live through the golden age again, right?

That's the spirit coming out of one vocal corner of the Call of Duty community. Despite Modern Warfare 3's blast from the past and its 2009-based map pool, a larger group of players is calling for us to finally remaster Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

Call of Duty fans regurgitate calls for MW2 Remastered

When Call of Duty 4 (Modern Warfare) was remastered, we thought that this might have sparked a pattern, with Modern Warfare 2 coming next and the third title in the original series coming soon after.

But the only remaster we got following that masterful CoD 4 remake was the campaign for MW2, as the developers strayed away from the multiplayer side of things, noting that the industry had progressed too far for that game to live up to its reputation and not damage its legacy with a remake.

That resulted in the entire map pool of MW2 (or at least the starting maps and not DLC content) being ported to the most recent Modern Warfare 3, making it a medley of the original series and its reboot.

To confuse things further, players are now calling for the remastered series to be reignited (yes, the third individual MW series), starting with MW2 multiplayer.

Taking to Reddit, one player made a post sparking this debate, saying, "I still cannot believe they only remastered the campaign for this game."

The comments section agreed unequivocally. One fan said, "The game would be more popular than the current release that’s why they haven’t done it and may not ever unless they get desperate."

Another added, "If they fully remastered MW2’s online multiplayer it would have done amazing numbers." Most players are hoping that the hitscan system in MW2, followed by the rustic movement and throwback weapons, can still be made, which would serve as an honest remaster.

Even if we're not due another MW2 remaster, there's no denying it would juxtapose the hyper-advanced mechanics of the upcoming Black Ops 6 with a true old-school Call of Duty. We know that Activision loves money and milking the CoDverse dry, so to be honest, we're not sure why this one hasn't been done yet.
