Forget Rubber Ducks, Call of Duty: Mobile is where the skin problem is

Rubber Ducks are back in the Call of Duty discourse, but while some hate the lack of Mil-Sim skins, others have pointed out it's a lot worse in Call of Duty: Mobile.

You might remember when Modern Warfare 3 recently added a Rubber Duck skin that completely divided fans' opinions. Some claimed that it totally went against Call of Duty's realistic nature, while others argued that the ship had sailed a long time ago.

Given that Nicki Minaj and Diablo 4's Lilith are both in the game, we're inclined to agree the Mil-Sim days are well and truly over. However, fans have highlighted that the Mobile version of the game has it much worse - charging a fortune for its own skins.

Get your wallets out

While it costs around $18/£20 in COD Points for the Duck skin in MW3, you could expect to pay upwards of $100 for similar skins in Mobile. Users on Reddit point out that CoD: Mobile skins have a pricey upgrade path. That's some serious cash to splash on a humble mobile game, but each to their own.

This all stems from an original Reddit post in which user Sad-Sheepherder-5684 says, "If You Ever Feel Stupid About Buying Bundles, Remember CODM Players Exist." The comments are equally as damning, with one user writing, "$100 for a heaping pile of sh*t, as expected from codm."

That said, there are a fair few defenders of the way Call of Duty: Mobile handles its skins in the same comment section. User reevoknows points out, "At least the stuff people buy in cod mobile won’t be worthless every November lol." This is in reference to how Call of Duty skins usually don't port over to the new title when the next one is released.

Is CoD: Mobile actually meta?

Skins did port over from MW2 to MW3 this time around, but it's the first time it's ever happened in the series' history. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Mobile has been around for years and simply sees regular updates to keep it in line with where the mainline series is at.

As such, all of the cosmetics purchased roll over into each season, which is arguably much more consumer-friendly, even if they do cost a bomb. Some users even argue that Call of Duty: Mobile is more fun than the current version available on console.

One Mobile supporter concluded, "I'll make the argument that codm has more content and is a better overall game than what main cod games have been for the last couple of years."

It remains to be seen whether the CoD Mobile skins will port over to Warzone Mobile, which is slated to release later this year. Regardless, if Modern Warfare 3 isn't quite scratching that itch, it could be time to make that switch to Mobile. Maybe hold off on the Rubber Duck skin, though.
