Former Call of Duty dev says they made features specifically for ‘dog s**t players’

Call of Duty is accused of adding OP features like deathstreaks, simply to cater to the series' worst players.

Last Stand

Call of Duty has had its fair share of legendary creators who've gone on to make exciting new projects. Just take a look at XDefiant and Mark Rubin's influence at Ubisoft as the first example, and then get excited for Treyarch alumni David Vonderhaar's upcoming project.

One developer who has moved onto a new studio and has often criticised his time at Call of Duty is Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling, who founded the recently-controversy-shrouded studio Midnight Society alongside Herschel "Dr Disrespect" Beahm.

After originally revealing that he left Infinity Ward after Modern Warfare 3 because the series had "too much 'pew pew' not enough new new," Bowling has now taken to Twitter to reveal that the developers also catered specific features for "dog s**t" and "vulnerable" players.

Ex-Infinity Ward dev reveals Final Stand was made for 'dog s**t' players

Last Stand is one of the more universally hated features in Call of Duty, coming as a deathstreak that gives players a second life in a 'downed' status, as if in Zombies or Warzone, and proves incredibly counter-intuitive for multiplayer.

Back at the reveal for the original Modern Warfare 3 (2011), Bowling appeared on-stage to detail multiplayer changes and made the bold statement of "f**k Last Stand" - although the perk was added post-launch.

Explaining the studio's decision to add the perk again, Bowling said that a part of the team claimed that it was needed for "really bad players". Writing on X, Bowling explained, "There was interest among a subset of the team to appeal to really bad players.

"Like just dog sh*t at Call of Duty players. Players who would die 7 times before even doing damage to someone. We put it in for them. The vulnerable."

Bowling left Call of Duty shortly after Modern Warfare 3's launch and has often voiced his displeasure at the contrasting values between different people within Infinity Ward and Activision's other studios.

Despite deathstreaks being a thing of the past, Last Stand still persists in multiplayer as a perk. It appeared most recently in Modern Warfare 2 through Survivor, leaving Bowling's fabled quote on-stage as one often echoed through time.
