The end is nigh, and we don't just mean for the mythological gods and monsters of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2. With things winding down in the current season, the leaks are starting to make their way through the cracks about what's coming next.

Early leaks claimed we'd be getting an apocalyptic series with homages to Mad Max, and while the mention of Pirates of the Caribbean had us writing it off as a fake, it seems like there might've been some truth to the rumours. As we rev our engines for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3, the War Dogs are ready to put the 'mad' in Mad Max.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 looks like it'll be Mad Max-themed

Although we're used to whole Battle Passes and season themes being leaked far ahead of time, Epic has largely managed to keep a lid on what's coming next. Now, Co-Founder and Vice President Mark Rein has set tongues wagging by giving a cryptic tease of "Nitro" for Chapter 5 Season 3.

While you might associate nitro with the Fast and Furious movies or Crash Nitro Kart, there are obvious connotations with automobiles. This fits with previous leaks that Chapter 5 Season 3 will include a new mechanic where players can hijack vehicles.

Something isn't quite adding up, and while there are seeming teases of aliens making a return, we can't see that AND Mad Max working together. Leakers have been digging deep into the files and have found a potential sandstorm event to end the season. If you've watched a Mad Max movie, you'll know this fits the theme.

Fortnite leaks show off Nitro skin

If you still aren't sold on the idea of rage on the roads of Fortnite, there's an apparent leak of a Nitro skin. FNBRintel points to a recent survey skin with the words "nitro", with this armour-clad dude looking like a radiated cabbage. All the pieces are slotting together nicely with an apocalypse theme, but we'll have to wait a little longer.

For those who want even more of a hint that Fortnite and Mad Max will be coming together in a big way, it just so happens that Chapter 5 Season 2 is set to end on May 24. The new season is set to go live shortly after, and as the Anya Taylor-Joy-led Furiosa movie releases on May 24, the stars seem to be aligning on some mechanical mayhem in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3.
