We're hitting the road again in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3, and with the Wasteland calling us back, we've been given one of the strangest crossovers in recent memory. Players were already unconvinced by a Cybertruck crossover, but now, they're left raging at the Summer Road Trip quests.
Chapter 5 Season 3 has definitely been an out-there one, boasting everything from an unofficial Mad Max crossover to a Deadpool & Wolverine collab, apocalyptic Magneto, and Pirates of the Caribbean shipwreck. It feels like we're throwing in the kitchen sink with the Cybertruck, but at this point, we've come to expect the unexpected.
Fortnite fans locked out by Summer Road Trip quest
One Summer Road Trip quest asks you to "Earn XP while in a party when playing in Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Festival mode." There are plenty of modes to do this in, and with the party having to earn 60,000 XP, it shouldn't be too hard. That's just the problem though - you need to be in a party.
Many Fortnite fans play on their own, preferring Solos over team-based matches. Others will happily jump into a lobby and fill in to bump up their numbers, but unfortunately, this doesn't work for the challenge. To complete the quests, you need to be in a party with someone on your friend list.
One unhappy gamer raged, "They Chernobyl Nuclear F**ked everyone who mains solos with these quests and it's disappointing because I was actually really looking forward to getting the Cybertruck, it looked so goofy," while another added, "Jokes aside it does irritate me when this game tries to force me to play with other people."
A third said, "That's screwed up. Hate when games friend-lock content." Thankfully, someone has found a potential workaround involving the game's split-screen abilities. If you're playing on PlayStation or Xbox, you can follow the below instructions:
- Open Fortnite
-
Go to the Lobby
-
Connect a second controller
-
Select another console account
-
When signed in, look to the bottom-right corner and Log In using the second controller (Triangle for PlayStation, A for Xbox)
-
The second player appears in the lobby
-
Split-screen will automatically start
It's a lot of hassle just to tick off one challenge, and some in the comments aren't sure whether it's a glitch. Thankfully, the Reddit thread is full of others in a similar boat, with plenty asking you to share your usernames so they can help you get the Cybertruck.
