The debate about exclusive skins in Fortnite has bubbled to the surface once more as fans have voiced their frustrations on X (formerly known as Twitter) over skins that are “locked” into old Battle Passes.

The game has risen to unprecedented popularity, gaining new players every day but if you’re jumping on now then there are plenty of great, and licensed, skins you just won’t have access to.

Even in the current season, after the Battle Pass expires fans will no longer be able to earn Peter Griffin and Solid Snake - once they are gone, they are gone forever. This is how it has always been since Fortnite’s inception and doesn’t look to change anytime soon.

Fortnite accused of 'locking' skins behind old battle passes

The post on X coincides with a similar thread on Reddit that states “I would happily buy them if they were in the shop” referencing such skins as Rick Sanchez, The Mandalorian and more.

The crux of the issue is the licensed skins with plenty of fan-favourite characters like Deadpool and Darth Vader sealed away forever.

Surprisingly, many fans have claimed they would be happy for the skins to be sold on the store after a limited amount of time, with most suggestions being one or two years after initial release.

One user even said that "collab skins being stuck behind a Battle Pass is a crime" whilst others were suggesting the system used in Halo, where you can go back and access any past Battle Pass after release - a handy suggestion for any newcomers just joining.

Another fan on Reddit referenced Call of Duty: Mobile as a case study, with players on this title being able to access older battle passes to purchase and complete, although knowing the nature of the challenges in Fortnite's previous passes and the new maps, it might prove more difficult than it seems for Epic to re-launch these services.

There has been no word from Epic Games if this will ever change, but with the topic being discussed by fans on multiple platforms hopefully, they will take a look at finding a solution in the future - wish selfishly I would love - I never managed to to get the Wolverine skin.
