Start ringing the apocalyptic bell because the end is nigh - well, at least for the current iteration of Fortnite. While the changing of the seasons is all well and good, it's the massive overhaul between chapters that really has us invested. With a new season it's a new map. Well, not quite a new map.

We've been begging for the return of the Chapter One map ever since Season X's "The End" event swallowed it into a black hole. Not that there's been anything wrong with the maps that have come since, but in terms of nostalgia, the return of the OG map would be a major win. Sadly, it might come at a price.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 5 could remove Zero build

Fortnite building, you either love it or hate it. In terms of late-game frustrations, there's nothing like being trapped in a tiny circle as someone builds to the sky with their fast fingers. The idea of a Zero Build mode was leaked long before it went live in March 2022, but since its release, we've never looked back.

Instead of being a limited-time mode, Zero Build has become a staple of Fortnite. It's hard to imagine a game without it now, as many of us default to Zero Build to escape those sweaty builders. Unfortunately, there's some uncertainty, with noted leaker HYPEX claiming Zero Build will be vaulted at the end of Chapter 4 Season 4.

Apparently, Epic Games is struggling with getting tactical sprinting and climbing running on the old Chapter One map, leading to the devs removing them before the next season. There's the added caveat that Zero Build could be facing the same fate, which sent the internet into meltdown.

Wait, not so fast

Almost as soon as we were warned Zero Build could be shown the door, further tweets have only left us more confused. Fellow leaker Shiina has seemingly clarified what's going on, claiming that ziplines will be added to smooth out the wrinkles of Zero Build.

It's unclear how things will work, as even with ziplines, some parts of the Chapter One map were hard to reach without building. Then again, the addition of building was something that alienated many, complaining the skill gap was too wide. This is why Zero Build was such a hit and saw a boost to player numbers.

HYPEX has backed this up, doing a U-turn on the original post. Fortnite purists are likely to be divided by the news, as back in Chapter One, Zero Build wasn't even a thing. If you're anything like us, you'll be pleased that we're safe from builders...for now.
