If you want to reenact the Fast & Furious franchise or go all Mad Max inside Fortnite, it sounds like you'll soon be able to. While vehicles have become a staple of Epic Games' battle royale, they're tipped to get a big overhaul following Chapter 3 Season 1.
We've already been through the wringer with the reset season of the Fortnite map, and after things got turned upside down, a midseason refresh brought back the fan-favourite Tilted Towers, added Klombos, and even dynamic weather. You have until March 19 to max out your battle pass, but we're expecting even more surprises in Season 2.
Are Fortnite Vehicles Getting A Revamp?
For a while now, fans have heard about the potential to mod their vehicles. We've previously seen this with the "Chonkers Off-Road Tires" to help with your off-road abilities, but now, there could be a new way to play without your squad having to hang out the window of a fast-moving car to gun down enemies.
According to noted leakers HYPEX and iFireMonkey, vehicular mods are back on the agenda. The idea is that these mods will come in the form of floor loot - that you presumably throw at a vehicle like with Chonkers. Remembering that different vehicles have different limitations, it remains to be seen how this works.
The obvious idea is that the flat-bed truck will be neatly modded with a mounted turret, however, this might be a little more difficult with something like the Whiplash. Also, are we supposed to expect gun-toting HGVs, and what about Quadcrashers? Even if there are some logistical problems, we're sure the devs have sorted them out.
When Could We See Modded Vehicles?
The problem is, we've heard about this kind of stuff before. Back when Chonkers tires were introduced in Chapter 2 Season 6, there were data files for a whole host of other modifications. Nearly a year later, they haven't reared their heads. As far back as December 2020, people were posting artwork of truck-mounted turrets, so take everything with a pinch of salt.
In January, we reported that tanks were coming to Fortnite, so it's unclear whether these leaks belong to the same batch or something new. The most recent update refers to a "TreadVehicle", which some think will be a driveable version of the driller - chances are that turrets are a separate addition. Either way, it sounds like Epic is about to light up the battlefield with some serious motor mayhem.
