The claws are out, as Fortnite's next big crossover is expected to cash in on the movie event of the year. In case you haven't heard, Free Guy's Shawn Levy is directing a little movie called Deadpool & Wolverine - bringing Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman's Clawed Canadian together for the first time.

Following the record-breaking success of Tim Miller's Deadpool in 2016, David Leitch's Deadpool 2 then topped it in 2018. With these fan-favourites joining forces, the X-Men finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a who's who of MCU alumni tipped to cameo, there are hopes Deadpool & Wolverine could cross the billion-dollar mark.

Deadpool & Wolverine tipped for Fortnite crossover, but we're not impressed

According to trusted Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR, the movie event of the year is (unsurprisingly) coming to Fortnite. With Jackman and Reynolds currently on the world tour for Deadpool & Wolverine, they're also meeting with various Fortnite content creators. What better way to make a quick buck than by releasing some new skins in the shop?

The problem is, we aren't exactly short of Marvel skins - especially for Wolverine. At the current count, there are three Wolverine skins in-game. Alongside the classic Wolverine skin earned in Chapter 2 Season 4, there's Chapter 3 Season 3's Wolverine Zero from purchasing Fortnite Crew, and now, the Weapon X skin that arrived in the shop for Chapter 5 Season 3.

As the classic Wolverine skin has different styles, we question how/why we'd need another one. A fourth Wolverine skin might feel like overkill, especially as his Deadpool & Wolverine outfit isn't anything drastically new. There's also a comic-accurate Deadpool outfit in regular rotation, with his movie variant not looking too dissimilar.

Players are rightly split on the idea, and ultimately, if Fortnite didn't have a Deadpool & Wolverine crossover, it would be a missed opportunity. Also, there are 13 Spider-Verse skins with multiple Spider-Man ones already being accused of overkill.

When the news was shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, one sceptic joked, "Fortnite ready to advertise and sell skins for the latest Marvel movie? How unexpected!" Another added, "You'd think you could predict Epic's decisions, but they usually surprise you in a disappointing way," and a third said, "Why miss an opportunity to sell some repainted digital pixels????

It's true that major movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 haven't had Fortnite crossovers, but with Call of Duty also tipped to have a Deadpool & Wolverine collab, we can't imagine Epic missing out on this one.

While we'd like something more than just making a quick buck with some new skins, don't count on it happening. There are growing reports that Chapter 5 Season 4 will be a Marvel-themed season, and although we'd love a full Deadpool & Wolverine season, we've learned it's best to manage our own expectations.
