Forza Horizon 5 might be coming to PS5, but don’t count on Starfield

The days of buying your respective console just for the games in its catalogue could be over. While pipe dreams of playing a Super Mario Odyssey sequel on a PS5 Pro will likely remain a fanciful fairytale, the idea that your favourite (former) Xbox exclusives could be basking in the blue glow of Sony isn't that farfetched.

Microsoft has unveiled its grand plans for the future of Xbox, with the gaming giant teaching us all that sharing is caring. In the wake of the Activision Blizzard deal lassoing Call of Duty, we were quickly reassured that CoD wouldn't become an Xbox exclusive. This then led to confirmation that some Xbox favourites would be landing on PlayStation.

Forza Horizon 5 tipped for PS5 release, but not Starfield

There's been a slow trickle of Xbox games for PS5, with Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded getting their own ports. Phil Spencer hasn't announced plans for further releases, although we're told Halo and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle aren't making the leap, The Elder Scrolls 6 was already confirmed for an Xbox-exclusive release.

Known leakers NateDrake and Shinobi claimed on Resetera that Forza Horizon 5 will be announced for PS5 at Gamescom. This was followed up by exstas1s dropping a Cinco De Mayo GIF and teasing that Forza was the big reveal. After the news started burning through the internet, exstas1s cleared up the confusion.

In a follow-up post, exstas1s is adamant that Forza Horizon 5 port is there and will be here "in the not too distant future." Although they dialled back hype for a Gamescom reveal, they added, "Some of our colleagues believe that the announcement will be imminent, others not so much, but it is coming."

There have also been swirling reports that Bethesda's Starfield could get a new lease of life courtesy of a PS5 port, although exstas1s concluded, "Calm for Starfield, there are no active plans for it yet." With multiple reports of a major Gamescom announcement, it was only logical that some might assume Starfield is on the docket

However, it seems there's more to the story. As noted, Xbox insider Jez Corden claims that Forza isn't getting announced at Gamescom. Writing for Windows Central, Corden reiterated, "My sources indicate that Forza will not be announced for PlayStation next week." He admits that if anything is coming, he's not aware of what it is.

If it's not Forza Horizon 5 being announced at Gamescom, then what could it be? As the last big gaming expo of the year, we're expecting everyone to go out with a bang. With Starfield's dwindling player count, we can only imagine the hype if it was the mythical PS5 port. Alas, maybe some other day.

Something like Starfield would definitely have the pulling power and with the Shattered Space DLC expected to get some long-awaited info at Gamescom, at least those starving Starfield fans should get some morsels from the gaming extravaganza.
