FromSoftware boss sparks hope of Elden Ring movie
With a world as vast as Elden Ring's - and with Game of Thrones' George R.R. Martin writing its expansive lore - it was only a matter of time until FromSoftware realised it was sitting on goldmine in terms of adaptations. From live-action movies to TV series, and even animation, the world is our Soulsborne oyster.
As early as March 2022, Bandai Namco's boss was talking about "expanding the brand beyond the game itself," but aside from the recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, we're yet to see exactly what this expansion entails. Now, FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki has sparked hopes of some news.

Click to enlargeNow that we've polished off the main Elden Ring story and Shadow of the Erdtree (if you're Kai Cenat), it's inevitably time to look ahead. Away from the usual asking about the inevitable Elden Ring sequel(s), Miyazaki has turned his attention to the idea of an Elden Ring movie.
Speaking to The Guardian (via VGC), Miyazaki said, "I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie, for example." He went on to admit, "But I don't think myself, or From Software, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium."
He said that a "very strong partner" would have to come into play, but thankfully, we're sure a huge number of studios would be chomping at the bit to get their hands on the Elden Ring IP. "We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure," concluded Miyzaki.
We previously floated the idea of an Elden Ring TV series, but seeing how The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power fell flat for many, a movie could do better. The problem is that the lore of Elden Ring is so massive that no movie could do it justice. Commit to a saga, and there's the issue of oversaturation/committing to a story that might never be finished.
Video game movies can be something of a poison chalice, especially when we get into the realms of fantasy. Uwe Boll's BloodRayne is held as one of the worst movies of all time, Warcraft was a box office dud, and Monster Hunter failed to set the world alight.
It's true that Dungeon & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves was more successful, but there's a reason we've not seen an Elder Scrolls or Baldur's Gate adaptation. The equally massive Zelda IP is being turned into a movie, but with that also boasting a family-friendly mass appeal, we question whether an Elden Ring movie is the right direction to go.
Following the massive success of the OG Elden Ring, and seeing how Shadow of the Erdtree has reinvigorated its fandom, now would be the perfect time to strike in announcing the next steps for the fantasy franchise. Come on Guillermo del Toro, you know you want to take a punt on this one.
