Frustrated Call of Duty fans claims classic map ‘still sucks’

One classic Call of Duty map has been at the heart of many players' frustrations in MW3, as they claim that the map 'still sucks' and is a pain to play.

Few maps have so quickly been thrust into the iconography of video games, yet despite its overwhelming popularity, Rust - the Modern Warfare 2 map reimagined in MW3 - is still causing plenty of frustration for players. Even 14 years later, there are still problems.

Home to countless 1v1s, quickscoping lobbies, and the general chaos any small Call of Duty map brings, Rust was one of the most anticipated maps for the player base ahead of MW3's launch. However, playing it again seems to be a rather divisive experience - leading some to wish that it wasn't in the rotation in the first place.

Rust isn't quite the fan favourite anymore

Reddit user u/Rynxmanj0nes bluntly remarked in a threat that "Rust still sucks," detailing that the spawns on the map are the main reason why it's so unplayable.

Spawns have been an issue in some form or another for as long as Call of Duty has been popular, but it seems like many players are at their limit and are turning on maps that should otherwise be seen as classics.

The post continues, stating, "Every single time they supposedly update the spawn to make it more dynamic it just gets worse. You would spawn in, die, then spawn immediately in front of the exact same enemy."

You can immediately see why this is such a frustrating experience, and I know I'm not alone in the number of times this has tilted me in the past. Activision has implemented a simple change that makes respawning a much more pleasant experience, but that's clearly still not enough to curb the frustration that so many feel.

Is Shipment really the better map?

What prevailed as a prominent opinion throughout the thread was how much Shipment was preferred to the desert-themed Rust. Shipment is no stranger to controversy, as there is a debate as to whether it has ruined Call of Duty. Unfortunately, the general opinion seems to be that Rust is even worse.

The original post bemoans how much of a hassle the process of levelling up guns is without access to Shipment, and one commenter agreed, arguing that Shipment has "better spawns than Rust." This really shows the problem, considering how much smaller Shipment is than Rust.

It really appears to be the crux of why the map has become so annoying to play for many. An additional user argues that they "love Rust when the spawns don't suck," with another concurring by stating that the map has "lots of great lanes and cool spots to kill people."

Could it be that spawns are the sole aspect holding Rust back from being a fan favourite once again? It is, of course, a complicated issue to tackle - but one that many are certainly desperate to see implemented.
