Insider sources have claimed that a Gears of War collection is currently being internally tested.
Rumours of a compilation collecting the best Gears of War games have spread previously, and they appear to be back with a vengeance in 2024.
Rumours of a Gears of War Collection are back
A recent conversation during a podcast has reignited hope that a Gears of War collection could be on the horizon.
During the 13 January episode of the Xbox Infinite Podcast, Middle Age Game Guy (also known as MAGG) stated that the Gears of War Collection is currently being tested.
“Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, I can tell you something else if you guys are interested in hearing,” said MAGG. “The Gears Collection is being internally tested as we speak.
“It’s currently being internally tested, which means the build is finished and they’re playing it now.”
When asked which games would be included in the release, he stated that he didn’t know anything for sure other than that it was currently being tested.
The rumours are only further backed up by a tweet from Benjamin Huyghe, the level designer for The Coalition, which hinted towards something coming in 2024.
While this was previously thought to allude to Gears 6, it seems like it could also be pointing at the collection so many people have been itching for.
Xbox has previously shut down rumours of an Ultimate Collection, but that won’t stop players hoping
In January 2023, a Game Rant article speculating about the logo for an upcoming Gears Ultimate Collection was released.
Xbox's Marketing Director, Guy Welch, was quick to quell the rumours, stating that the article was "Fake news".
It isn’t clear whether or not the comment was regarding the logo or the collection itself, though given the most recent information it seems as though it may have been the logo all along.
Naturally, players who have been eagerly wanting a collection of the best Gears of War games since the initial rumours are hoping that it is actually on the way.
“This will make me so happy when it drops!” wrote one Twitter user.
Another said: “The gears community has been hanging on the best we can. I hope this year we at the very least hear something from the studio.”
A third tweet said: “I don’t think it is real, but I really, really, really, really hope I’m wrong.”
As nothing is confirmed, there is no premiere date or release window currently known, however if the tweet from Huyghe is anything to go by it may be coming this year.
Whether or not the leak turns out to be true, it's clear that a Gears of War Collection is something that a lot of people are going to be waiting for.
