Looking back at the impressive 20-year history of the Xbox, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is rightly held as one of the home console's very best releases. Now, insiders claim another major Xbox exclusive could be set for the same treatment.

Over the years, Xbox has treated us to the likes of ForzaGears of WarAge of Empires, Fable, and more. Still, Halo has always been held as the pinnacle of the system's very best. With whispers of the next big collection, is it really too hard to imagine a Gears of War: The Fenix Collection to continue its legacy?

Is A Gears Of War Collection On The Way?

The notion comes from noted insider Speshal Nick during the XboxEra podcast. When discussing all things Microsoft, he explained, "What I've been told is that there is another Microsoft franchise, I'm not allowed to say the franchise, that will be getting like the Master Chief Collection treatment... Is probably the best way to describe it."

Nick said he isn't sure of timelines, but guesses it's more of a "next year" kind of thing. Delving deeper into what franchises could be on the starting blocks, Forza was quickly written off due to too many titles having being delisted and licensing issues.

Fable and Gears seem like two heavy hitters that would be primed for this sort of treatment, but we've got to admit, we're leaning more toward Gears. Then again, with the long-awaited return of Fable being up there with this year's Starfield and the eventual release of The Elder Scrolls 6, it would be another shrewd move to release the story so far.

Is A Gears Of War Collection Likely?

You might remember that The Master Chief Collection launched in November 2014 and nicely set up the arrival of Halo 5: Guardians in 2015. MCC was a divisive title at launch, but managed to redeem itself by continuously adding updates.

Elsewhere, Dave Bautista has said he's "ready" for a Gear of War movie - which could be onto another marketing winner with a revamp of the older games reminding us why we need a live-action outing. Finally, let's remember The Coalition gave us a loaded Happy New Year message that promised big things ahead and used what looked like updated artwork from 2008's Gears of War 2

It's easy to picture a potential 2022/2023 Gears Collection, with the long-mooted Gears of War 6 coming relatively soon after. Unfortunately, we recently shared how Gears 6 might not be expected to 2025. It's true that 2024 is possible, which would nicely coincide with a collection of the previous entries next year.

Looking at the success of MCC, a Gears Collection would be an easy sell and help bolster the console's FPS credentials in a post-Halo Infinite landscape. Depending on who you ask, Gears is arguably the second best-known Xbox IP. For now though, Marcus Fenix is left staring gruffly into the abyss.
