Stop intensely scanning your screens everyone because George R.R. Martin has confirmed that he didn't hide his initials in Elden Ring.
In the leadup to its release, one of the biggest pulls of FromSoftware's Elden Ring was that Game Of Thrones creator and fantasy writing legend George R.R. Martin was involved in the game's development. With Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm and Martin's reputation for adding a gruesome flare to the fantasy genre, we knew we were in for something exciting, and we were so right.
As record-breaking Elden Ring continues to dominate the internet, some eagle-eyed players began to notice something strangely familiar hidden among the game. According to the players, it appeared as though the game's devs had found a clever way to hide Martin's initials in-game, much to our excitement. However, sadly, it appears to have all been an illusion.
George R.R. Martin Denies Hidden Elden Ring Easter Egg
The internet went wild on March 11 after a viral tweet claimed that George R.R. Martin had hidden a clever Easter egg in Elden Ring, in which he had hidden his initials within the names of the game's bosses. As keen players flocked to their screens to try and find the Easter egg, Martin took to a blog post to straighten things out and dispel any such claim.
In a blog post on his website, Martin said: "There's a weird story all over the internet about how I 'hid' my initials in ELDEN RING because… ah.. some of the characters have names beginning with R, or G, or M. To which I say, 'Eh? What? Really?' This was news to me. I have been writing and publishing stories since 1971, and I suspect that I have been giving characters names beginning with R and G and M since the start."
George R.R. Martin Has 'No Reason' To Hide His Name In Elden Ring
In true Tyrion Lannister style, Martin channelled his sharp wit to quell any idea that he would possibly 'hide' his initials in Elden Ring. In the blog post, Martin continued: "Coming up with names is hard, especially since A Song Of Ice And Fire uses so many of them, and I am fond of giving family members and close kin names that have something in common… but really, why would I have to hide my name inside the game? My name is right there on the game, as one of the creators. Hey, Elden Ring is exciting enough, no need to make up stuff."
So, sadly, no. There is no George R.R. Martin Elden Ring Easter egg that we know off... yet. In the meantime, we'll just have to make do with Thomas the Tank Engine.
