Time enjoyed wasting is not wasted time, especially in World of Warcraft. A Reddit user by the name of u/TheSlapperfish has achieved the unthinkable task of levelling a Goblin to level 50 without even having blown up Kezan yet, meaning that they have yet to leave the starting zone. While there is some trickery involved, the feat is still as gruelling of a grind as one imagines.
Already two months ago, TheSlapperfish reported that he had killed a staggering 5000 Tunneling Worms with his Hunter Nobb in order to reach level 39 and learn exotic beast taming to catch one of these specimens. The feat is particularly incredible because, while the specific model of the Tunneling Worms is reused elsewhere in World of Warcraft, this exact mob only exists in the Goblin starting zone Kezan, which players usually leave soon after the explosion that happens in the city as part of the starting zone campaign. Keeping the city safe from its explosive exploits, Nobb has become the silent protector of the city from its fate that so many players have witnessed it go through in their parallel universes. In order to make a point, Nobb tamed not just one but four Tunneling Worms, providing a great deal of... scientific progress of the Goblin empire?
I leveled a Goblin to 50 without Kezan exploding. Now I have to wait over 40 days to hit level 51. from r/wow
As players may know, World of Warcraft has a feature that phases out gathering experience at the same rate from a quest or killing a mob over and over if you out-level it considerably, trying to keep people from doing exactly what TheSlapperfish did and have it be efficient. In order to hit level 50, they had to get inventive, using daily turn-ins which are account-wide and provide a minuscule amount of experience at a heavy grind but slowly and steadily getting the job done.
Unfortunately, the diminishing returns on the grind have started to take effect, with the method used requiring TheSlapperfish to do the very same mind-numbing task for effectively 43-44 days of pure pet grinding in order to just hit level 51 (the level cap is currently at level 60). The user has reached out to folks on Reddit to help him with ideas on how to more efficiently get on with the grind, seemingly to little avail. Whether or not Nobb will continue levelling remains to be seen, but given the sheer amount of time invested, he has already reached legend status in the game.
