Sorry Chris Hemsworth, you could be out of a job. Apparently, Ryan Hurst's beefy and mead-swilling Thor from God of War Ragnarok is better than Hemsworth's version in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As Sony Santa Monica soars to the top of the charts with God of War Ragnarok, the sequel to 2018's God of War is tipped as one of 2022's biggest games. Not least of all, thanks to "big boy" Thor.
Now, the fans have spoken. Apparently, Sons of Anarchy's Ryan Hurt playing Thor is even better than Chris Hemsworth's MCU portrayal.
Is Ryan Hurst Better Than Chris Hemsworth As Thor?
Alongside playing Beta in The Walking Dead, Hurst is best known as Opie Winston in the first five seasons of Sons of Anarchy. Playing Thor is no small task, but Hurst tackles this supersized challenge with ease.
On Twitter, one user declared Ragnarok's Thor the best Thor in *all* media. A fierce debate soon rose, with memes galore given Hurst's Thor the nod. "I have to say the depiction of Thor in #Ragnarok is probably the best I have ever seen," said one fan.
They added, "I loved the MCU Thor only, the most in Ragnarok and Infinity War, but this is my absolute favourite… This is how he should be portrayed!"
Discussing the game's big twist early on (no spoilers), another Thor fanatic wrote: "I might be overreacting but Thor’s introduction and fight in God Of War Ragnarok is one of the best things I've ever experienced in media I've literally had to put the game down for 10 minutes to recover from THAT."
Someone else wrote, "Ryan Hurst's performance as Thor (along with Thor's character design) was easily one of the best parts of God of War: Ragnarok."
Chris Hemsworth Still Has His Fans
Of course, MCU Thor isn't without his fans. The epic fight between Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor is one of The Avengers' best moments. Also, there are those who like ogling his abs.
It's true that Hurst's Thor is thought to be more mythologically accurate, while a pro powerlifter has praised him as being "peak" male performance.
To be honest, MCU Thor and God of War Thor are going for two very different audiences. We say, let everyone enjoy whichever Thor they want.
After 11 years of Hemsworth playing Thor, you might think he has the competition nailed. Then, in swaggers Hurst as the GOAT Thor that puts Marvel's diluted version to shame.
