With delays across the board, everything from Starfield to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and even Breath of the Wild 2 have been given the boot into 2023. While Microsoft especially has suffered, this has left the door open for God of War to potentially claim the second half of the year for Sony alone.
Even though we don't have a God of War Ragnarok release date, we know Kratos is out there - presumably doing some press-ups in preparation for the concluding chapter of the franchise's Norse mythology. There also hasn't been much in the way of trailers, aside from last year's God of War Ragnarok gameplay trailer.
Has God Of War Ragnarok Had A Graphics Downgrade?
In May 2022, Sony Santa Monica gave us a new trailer going through the various Ragnarok accessibility options. Hidden deep were a few glimpses of some new gameplay alongside some familiar scenes. Doing a side-by-side of the trailer, one fan claimed Kratos has been a graphical upgrade... but has he?
The issue spilled over onto the PlayStation 4 subreddit, where fans asked if the OP was blind. Amidst claims God of War Ragnarok has had a graphics upgrade, others are adamant it has a downgrade. When the OP shared a YouTube video of both reels, one wrote, "It looks less detailed with a haze of blue over the whole image if you ask me. Did they mix up the 'New' and 'Old' labels?'" Another added, "Hmm, weird, they shrank his shoulders. Made him look soft."
So what's going on? In reality, last year's trailer didn't have the filters and post-processing effects that appear in the accessibility showcase. Colour grading and fog effects have added a blue hue that made it look like the characters are in a cold. Still, the debate of whether it's been upgraded or downgraded rages on.
What Is The God Of War Ragnarok Release Date?
It's a sad state of affairs that we still don't have a Ragnarok release date. Then again, there's a lot on the way. In another year that E3 fails to appear, we've got the likes of Summer Games Fest and an upcoming PlayStation Showcase. If one of these doesn't give Ragnarok a release, we'd be very surprised.
Remembering 2018's God of War has been crowned the greatest game of all time by some, there are high hopes to see what happens next. One thing's for sure, we don't think this is the end of the road for the series. Even if Kratos bows out, we've already pitched our own sequel where Atreus takes the story into Chinese mythology. Either way, God of War Ragnarok looks like a glorious swansong (for now). Well, that depends on what footage you're watching.
