There are plenty of bats in the belfry, as Warner Bros. Montreal gears up for the release of Gotham Knights. The Caped Crusader might be dead and buried, but in a post-Bruce Wayne Gotham City, the Bat Family is spreading its wings to continue his legacy.
After the success of Rocksteady's first two Arkham games, Warner Bros. Montreal took on Arkham Origins as a spin-off prequel. Now, the developer is back for a game that's unconnected to the continuity of the Arkhamverse. Gotham Knights looks similar to the Arkham trilogy, and with this in mind, there's an engaging story sure to lure you in.
How Many Times Will You Have To Play Gotham Knights?
Speaking to PLAY magazine (via MP1st), Game Director Geoff Ellenor and Cinematics Director Wilson Mui explained how you'll have to play Gotham Knights multiple times to get the full story. You will not see all of it in a single playthrough," said Ellenor. "Just because there’s so much content that is unique to the hero’s perception of what's going on and what happened."
Continuing about how things will play out from the perspectives of different characters, Mui added, "Structurally, we're gonna have a very similar scene for each character, but each character has their own version of that. So because they move differently, they speak differently, they have different histories with all the different characters, it allows us to make a scene that would be their version of that."
It's an interesting idea that proves the devs will be making the most of playing as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. Using a strange example, Mui said, "We have a butt shot because, you know, there's a butt thing for Nightwing out there that we need to appease the fans with!" The pair don't reveal how many times you're going to have to play, but Ellenor concluded, "We made four games all the time, because there’s a lot in Gotham Knights."
When Will Gotham Knights Release?
2022 was a particularly rough one for gaming release, but while the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League slipped into next year, Gotham Knights was actually moved up four days to October 21. It's not been smooth sailing though, because as you know, the last-gen release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been given the boot.
Fan reactions to Gotham Knights have been mixed, and when the first gameplay reveal gave Red Hood magic powers, it did nothing to quiet its critics. In the run-up to the superhero ensemble's October release, expect the marketing machine to go into overdrive as we get ready to suit up and save the city.
