GTA 4 remaster gives Liberty City a new-gen upgrade
With the announcement of GTA 6 and the knowledge that it is just around the corner, it is easy to look ahead at all of the great new additions and improvements that are on the horizon. That said, it is sometimes worth looking back at where we came from, a feat that is made easier by the latest unofficial remaster of GTA 4.

A remaster has given GTA 4 a complete next-gan makeover
Given the attention that has fallen on GTA 6 since the trailer was released last month, it is not surprising to think that some of the older GTA games may have been neglected just a little bit.
That isn’t the case for everyone however, particularly in the case of Digital Dreams on YouTube, who has been able to give the GTA 4 map a complete makeover, complete with ray tracing and 4K graphics.
It is worth noting that it is only the GTA 4 map which has been remastered within GTA 5, and not GTA 4 itself.
GTA 4 was released in 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Seeing the map looking as though it were made for a next-gen device is a huge step up and makes it feel almost like a completely new adventure.
Fans of GTA are impressed by the unofficial remaster
Naturally, a lot of GTA fans are impressed with the upgrade, though not everyone has been quite as receptive.
One GTA fan commented: “Personally it looks great, the buildings, the lighting and cars but the water just doesn't appeal to me.”
“Damn [such] a good job,” another said. “True remaster.”
Not everyone liked the high-resolution graphics and ray tracing quite as much, however.
“The original looks better,” one YouTube commenter said.
Another added: “This does not look good, it looks fancy. But it does not look good.”
Digital Dreams make a lot of their ReShade presets available on their Ko-Fi page, with packs for everything from Hogwarts Legacy to Robocop to Red Dead Redemption.
Whether or not this particular graphics mod catches your eye, it is exciting to think just how good GTA 6 could look when it releases in the next year or so.
