The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6’s announcement is getting bigger and bigger as each day passes.

Leakers and fans alike have been throwing out dates for the game to be revealed for months, and it is starting to become clear that many of these are incorrect.

GTA fans have begun making fun of one particular leaker whose prediction has proved to be incorrect online.

GTA fans have been making fun of incorrect leakers

On 15 March this year, Twitter user IronManPS5_ claimed to have insider information showing that GTA 6 would be revealed in September 2023 and released in Autumn 2024.

He said: “The next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway at Rockstar North and will be officially announced in September 2023. Grand Theft Auto VI will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in Fall 2024 before releasing on PC in 2025.”

Since the game is yet to be announced by Rockstar, despite some pretty heavy hints from the developer, it is clear that this leak was wrong.

In response, many GTA fans have come out with some rather funny lines on a reddit post from u/Quick_Difference5671, which sarcastically says: “This aged like fine wine.”

“GTA 6 will be announced on a day in the future,” one user remarked.

Another said: “They're announcing it at E3,” in reference to the death of the previously popular convention.

Some GTA 6 leakers have faced death threats over misinformation

While many of the quips being shared about IronManPS5’s leak are light-hearted, not all of the reactions to leaks which didn’t pan out have been.

GTA ‘insider’ MarxxChris took to Twitter earlier this week to share that he had been receiving death threats due to sharing information that turned out to not be true.

The account has since been set to private, however the original tweets have been shared on Reddit by u/rolf344br.

MarxxChris said: “I am absolutely and deeply appalled by the level of criticism and hostility I have faced in response to the leaks. It is beyond disheartening to witness the presence of death threats, which are utterly inexcusable and deeply distressing.

“This situation raises serious questions about the moral compass of those who resort to such behaviour.

“I have been profoundly disturbed by the receipt of extremely alarming death threats and information regarding their intentions. It is disheartening that some individuals with big voices seem to escape the consequences of their actions. This experience is genuinely disturbing.”

While nothing is set in stone, we can only hope that Rockstar come out with an announcement sooner rather than later.

From the excited way in which fans respond to hints and leaks that could provide any information about the game at all, to the over-the-top reaction to leaks that fall through,  fans are clearly very eager to get their hands on the next installment in the franchise.
