Helldivers 2 could have mechs soon, if the servers can keep up

It looks as though the mechs that have been teased since before the launch of Helldivers 2 could be coming soon - but that depends on whether the game's servers can cope.

Arrowhead Game Studios has been crushing it of late with Helldivers 2, clambering up the PlayStation player charts and holding fast on the top of the Steam mountain. Even as players struggle to enter games, they're loving the chance to distribute democracy to every corner of the cosmos.

Helldivers 2 has really struggled internally with servers that can't manage the sheer sum of would-be soldiers, and as Arrowhead Game Studios is faced with problems that unfortunately can't be solved simply by adding more servers, players are suffering for it.

Now, it looks as though the struggles that the game's team is facing could be holding the rest of Helldivers 2's content roadmap back.

Helldivers 2's mechs are waiting for sturdier servers

Though fans are loving what's at their disposal in Helldivers 2 now, there is one thing they know that they can look forward to, and that's the mechs Arrowhead teased at the end of the Report for Duty trailer - debuting before launch.

The trailer offers a hint at mechs "coming soon after launch" to assist in the effort to eradicate Terminids and Automotons , but since the game launched, we haven’t heard anything about them. We don't know when the company planned for that "soon" to be, but a new reveal has indicated that mechs are about ready to go, safe for one problem.

Shared to the Helldivers subreddit, a new Discord message from dev Evil-Bosse has confirmed that the mechs are "good to go" and have been for a while, but "there’s still some additional polishing being done by people who can’t assist with server issues."

So when are we getting mechs, then?

As of right now, we don't have any real indication for when mechs will arrive in Helldivers 2, but as soon as the server issues are tidied up, we can probably expect mechs to appear in the following update. Timings for mech polish and server issue fixes should sync up nicely, making for a tidy update featuring plenty of content and resolutions.

Thankfully, you might not have long to wait, as the 1.000.10 patch has just rolled out and has given us hope of stronger server capabilities. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt hyped the patch's release and claims it has "resolved matchmaking and prep for increased server load."

Either way, the addition of mechs is a nice thing on top of already nice things. The game is a raucous success so far, and as far as content turnaround goes, it looks like Arrowhead Game Studios is working to a tighter schedule than most developers. Thank goodness we have a shooter with a team willing to work overtime. Not literally, mind.
