Those Helldivers 2 players are getting tangled up in themselves a little bit. As fans have now made much more sense of how the game works and tallies the distribution of democracy across the universe, they're starting to get hyper-focused on crushing the scourge of the cosmos with an iron fist.
Wannabe Helldivers are 'diving' in on super-important missions that are crucial to stopping the Automaton takeover that seems constantly imminent - and as a result, they're starting to turn on each other.
Some players have made a habit of claiming medals and ducking out of missions, leaving many in the dark and feeling cheated for all of their hard work - but it seems that the problem might not be as dire as it once seemed.
Helldivers 2 players are furious with medal farmers
Players have been up in arms about one detail in Helldivers 2 that would appear on the surface to cause problems in the wider battle for democracy - but it appears to have been confirmed that the issue isn't as bad as we had previously thought.
A rising trend of medal farmers in the first-person shooter has seen players enter Eradicate Automaton Forces missions, claim their medals for the adventure, and then simply bounce from the game. This leaves others fending for themselves and struggling against the Automaton's rising domination meter.
Aside from smaller teams of players to fight the scourge, the bigger issue here is that players have assumed that this counts as a loss for Super Earth. It means that the playerbase goal for universe-wide democracy has been squandered one game at a time.
As highlighted in one Reddit post, u/LicensetoIll says, "We are handing bots planets like candy on Halloween." It's easy to see why you would be frustrated by this, especially in a game that prides itself on incredible camaraderie and teamwork. Thankfully, it looks like the problem might not be the end of the world(s).
Medal farmers aren't ruining Helldivers 2 like we thought they were
After one developer of the Helldivers 2 team accidentally reported that a game cancelled mid-way through would count as a loss for Super Earth, players thought they had all the info they needed to come for the farmers - but a new comment from a different dev suggests otherwise.
"I can confirm that abandoning an operation does not progress the enemy's percentage, so people who leave operations do not negatively affect a planet," says developer account AHGS_Misty in response to a Reddit thread revealing the would-be news. "Unfortunately Evil-Bosse got it wrong, but we all make mistakes!"
So, it looks like farmers might not be pulling us down the drain like we thought they were, though their actions certainly make things harder for the players aiming for Super Earth wins rather than medals alone. Even though medal farmers stink, they're not ruining Helldivers 2 entirely.
Let's turn away from internal rage, Helldivers, as after all, we can't stop the Automatons as a faction divided.
