The quest to spread democracy across the galaxy in Helldivers 2 isn't an easy one, thanks mainly to the hordes of countless enemies who oppose the cause.

Whether it's the Automatons, Berserkers, or Brood Commanders, taking these foes down in the most spectacular ways is part of the fun. So, a hint that a formidable threat will be coming into the fold is guaranteed to get the community on the edge of its seat, and that's exactly what's happened recently.

Evidence of an enemy from the original Helldivers has been found on multiple planets, and these heavily armoured opponents may emerge to be the most serious threat to date.

Helldivers 2 fans have found deactivated Warlords from the original game

Taking to the Helldivers subreddit, user TLDRregularjoe decided to share some "sightings" of what appear to be "decommissioned Warlords" from the original Helldivers.

These were spotted on the "bot frontline", which suggests they're being prepped for battle and may arrive in a future update.

For those who are unaware, Warlords are "massive beings" who are at the very top of "cyborg society" and are described as "formidable opponents."

Equipped with a mid- to long-range canon and extremely heavily armoured, Warlords won't be easy to defeat if they ever come to Helldivers 2.

The sightings of these deactivated Warlords have sparked a huge amount of excitement amongst the community, who "can't wait to watch them explode."

While players are already starting to theorise which weapons will be most effective against Warlords, they're also acknowledging that they may be the toughest foes they've faced to date.

"We are gonna need some serious armour penetration," said one user, with another joking, "May Liberty save us all." Arrowhead has not confirmed the arrival of Warlords for now, but the appearance of deactivated bots on the frontline hints that they could be on the battlefield very soon.
