Here's why you shouldn't run Spider-Man 2 on a PS4

Someone has done the seemingly impossible by getting the PlayStation 5-exclusive Spider-Man 2 to run on a PS4. Be warned, the results are a little rough.

Insomniac Games is on the 'hunt' for another banger, as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is coming out of the gate hot with fan-favourite villains, including Venom and Kraven the Hunter. The follow-up to 2018's Spider-Man is a bigger and bloodier affair, but unfortunately, not everyone can experience it.

It's not just Xbox players being trapped in a web of despair, as Spider-Man 2's new-gen credentials mean it's only available on PlayStation 5. It was the same with the remastered version of the OG title, so it's not like PS4 players didn't know it was coming. That hasn't stopped you trying though.

You can run Spider-Man 2 on the PS4

Before you go dashing off to the shops in search of a PS5, it turns out there is a way to play Spider-Man 2 on the PS4. Be warned, you'll probably not want to. As Insomniac never planned to release Spider-Man 2 on PS4, the last-gen console struggles to run the title, but somehow, it works.

Over on Twitter, @DiscordantDiver shared a clip of Spider-Man 2 running on PS5. It's near the start of the game as Peter and Miles go against Sandman, and as soon as we jump into the action, the PS4 becomes a stuttering mess. We can only imagine what it's doing to doing to your poor SSD.

Others soon chimed in, with one adding, "That PS4 is on life support right now 😂😂." Another said, "PS4 having a seizure," and a third concluded, "Bros PS4 bout to activate sonic boom." There's no word on how they got Spider-Man 2 playing on the PS4, but safe to say, we probably won't be trying it.

Insomniac teases Spider-Man 3

There could be one more in the tank for Spider-Man on the PS5, with Insomniac already talking about a third game. If a certain post-credit return didn't tease it, how about the mention of a "final chapter"? Speaking to Skill Up, Creative Director Bryan Intihar has already been thinking about what comes next.

"I think… if 'Spider-Man 1' [and 'Spider-Man: Miles Morales'] was like… our 'Iron Man' and 'Spider-Man 2' was like a ['Captain America:] Civil War', where do we go?" says Intihar. "Where logically do we go from there? I think it’d be pretty epic. But you know, we’ll see."

There was talk about Spider-Man 3 as far back as 2021, and with Spider-Man 2 being the fastest-selling Sony Studios game of all time, it would be more villainous than the Sinister Six if we didn't get another outing. Andrew Garfield didn't get to complete his Spider-Man trilogy, but hopefully, Insomniac can finish its story.
