If you're a devoted fan of Task Force 141, we're afraid lousy news is coming your way. Call of Duty itself has landed a huge hint that many of its iconic characters will only be available through a paywall.

The elite group known as Task Force 141 is getting the band back together for Modern Warfare 2, featuring a range of iconic characters from the franchise, a returning new-look General Shepherd, and some new faces to bolster the ranks.

However, if you were expecting that the big names will also be accessible in multiplayer, well, you're going to be pretty upset unless you've got deep pockets.

Ghost And Soap Expected To Be Locked Behind Paid Bundle

Both Captain John "Soap" MacTavish and Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley are returning to Modern Warfare alongside Captain Price and the MW2019 heroine Commander Farah Karim. Yet, the franchise sweethearts won't be available unless you pay.

Taking to a blog post, Activision explained that following the launch of Modern Warfare 2, there would be 18 operators available to be unlocked through the Campaign, Multiplayer, and Special Ops.

However, they later went on to detail that, "Price, Farah, Soap, and Ghost Operators are available via the Vault Edition’s Red Team 141 pack," insinuating that this is the only way to access these operators.

Task Force 141 Restricted To Pre-Order Bundle

The Red Team 141 pack is only available through pre-ordering the game, meaning that the only way of picking up these characters is to purchase the Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition worth around £100.

Ghost, Price, Farah, and Soap might well come to non-Vault Edition owners in a later season through the battlepass or bundles, but it appears that for pre-season and Season 1, they won't be around for the main bulk of fans.

The decision to keep these characters limited to the bundle is a shame considering players will be falling in love with the characters all over again in the one-week campaign early access.
