ImperialHal explains why Alter won't work in Apex Legends pro play

TSM's IGL Phillipp "ImperialHal" Dosen has explained why Alter probably won't work in Apex Legends pro play, especially in the Bloodhound and Caustic meta.

Alter has made her debut in the Outlands with Season 21, and as expected, she's skyrocketed to the top of the Apex Legends pick rate charts.

The Void Breacher is capable of phasing through walls with ease and taking skirmishes with enemies who believe they're safe behind cover.

On top of that, she can steal loot with her Passive, as well as provide a get-out-of-jail-free card with her Ultimate for the whole team. Alter seems like a top-tier pick for the ALGS and pro play as a whole, but TSM's Philip "ImperialHal" Dosen disagrees.

Will Alter be viable in Apex Legends pro play?

During a recent stream, TSM's IGL was asked whether he believes Alter will be a solid pick in the ALGS. In response, Hal claimed Alter is not very "viable in a fight, in my opinion, like if you fight someone 3v3 she's practically useless, you're just going to get f**king s**t on by like a Bangalore."

While the argument for her Ultimate is that you can play aggressively and an instant teleport back, Hal argues that in pro, good teams will be vigilant and wait for the push, then simply camp out the teleporter for a free team wipe.

Overall, Hal just believes that her kit is too "niche" and doesn't offer quite enough from a team perspective when compared to Caustic, Bangalore, and Bloodhound.

The CEO also points out that Caustic's gas could be a real problem for Alter, especially in the late game. Phasing into buildings with Gas Traps will likely result in an instant death. Hal did concede she could be a good re-fragger, but the meta will have to change before that's viable.

Does that mean Alter is bad in Ranked & standard Apex Legends?

Alter profile Apex Legends

No, just because a Legend doesn't work particularly well in pro play doesn't mean it's not a strong pick, Octane is a great example of that. In Ranked and standard matches, you can afford to take more risks and look for as many skirmishes as possible.

Also, teams are significantly less coordinated outside of the ALGS, so countering a phase from Alter is so much harder.

This all comes together to make her a real pain to deal with and a serious skirmisher in the hands of a talented player. It's also worth remembering that this is Hal's isolated opinion, so other pros may disagree and may be keen to add her to their comp.
