Indiana Jones and the Great Circle critics think it should be a VR game

As MachineGames shows off more from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, critics are complaining that the 2024 title looks like it should've been a VR game.

Doctor Jones is ready to crack his whip once again, as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is officially coming to Xbox on December 9, followed by a PS5 release in early 2025. MachineGames is putting on its fedora, and for anyone who's played one of its Wolfenstein games, you'll know this looks like a typically action-packed outing.

There have been plenty of Indiana Jones games over the years, however, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle looks like it's pushing the envelope further by trying to be a truly new-gen adventure that takes us around the globe. Gameplay has shown we'll get up close and personal while punching Nazis, which feels like a missed opportunity.

With whole swathes of the game being in first-person, there are repeated complaints that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle isn't available in VR. Ever since we got a first look at gameplay during January's Developer Direct, there have been calls for a VR port. Some have even recreated the trailer in VR to show how easy it could be.

All over social media, gamers have been lamenting that someone hasn't seen the potential of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as a VR game - especially with PSVR2 potential. One said, "Indiana Jones game still looks like it was made for VR rather than AAA PC game," while another added, "That Indiana Jones game looks like it'd be a fantastic VR game."

While some have said they're praying for a future VR mod, others are calling it out for looking like a VR mod without meaning to. After one grumbled, "IDK why this looks like VR and something like Wolfenstein doesn't," someone else concluded, "The first-person view really makes it feel like a VR experience, but not in a good way."

There's been an uptick in VR ports of first-person games, with Capcom showing us how it's done with Resident Evil 7, Village, and even last year's RE4 Remake. As MachineGames has said nothing about Indy getting a VR overhaul, it looks like he'll be staying as a standard adventure game.

Arkane Lyon and MachineGames worked on Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot as a VR spin-off in 2019, and while it was far from peak Wolfenstein, it shows Bethesda isn't against the idea. For now, we're still trying to get our heads around the previously Xbox-exclusive Indiana Jones game coming to PS5, let alone a mythical VR port.
