Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 rumours are bad news for Xbox exclusivity

New rumours suggest that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be coming to PlayStation 5 in 2025, meaning its time as an Xbox exclusive would be extremely short-lived.

Gamescom is upon us once again, and now, it looks like we might've cracked the code on what could be one of Opening Night Live's biggest announcements. There were recent rumblings that a major Xbox exclusive was going to find a new home on PlayStation, and nope, it doesn't look like it's Forza Horizon 5

Despite Xbox overlord Phil Spencer saying there will be "no fundamental change" to the gaming giant's plans for Xbox exclusivity, the Green Team has already teased a utopian future where Microsoft and Sony share their biggest games - potentially ending the console wars forever.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle rumoured for PS5

So far, we've seen relatively minor titles like Grounded and Pentiment find new homes on the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, leaving us on tenterhooks for what the first big title to jump ship will be. We assumed that Bethesda's Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be shackled to the Xbox, but now, we're hearing otherwise.

With swirling rumours that a big Xbox exclusive is coming to PS5, leaker NateTheHate reports that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle won't be an Xbox exclusive for long. The rumoured plan is that after its release later this year (we're still waiting for a concrete release date), it'll then be released on PS5 in the "first half of 2025."

Realistically, this means MachineGames' archaeological adventure might only be an Xbox exclusive for a couple of months. Insider Gaming claims that some outlets have been signing NDAs, although it's unclear whether the announcement will be made at Opening Night Live.

Back in February, The Verge said Bethesda was 'considering' bringing the game to PlayStation 5, and in the past, the publisher's gamers have tended to be a multi-platform release. Then again, considering the likes of Starfield and Indiana Jones were specifically highlighted as games that wouldn't come to PS5, it feels like someone in the communication department has missed the memo somewhere.

While we agree that sharing is caring, the news hasn't gone down well. Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, one critic grumbled, "Look, if it is only going to be exclusive for 3-6 months, what is the point? I’d understand a year, but at this point, it just seems Microsoft is keeping a short exclusive window to say, 'see we still have console exclusives.'"

Another joked, "Tomorrow, they'll be bringing over Halo. Might as well get it over with, right?" and a third concluded, "Don't forget that MS reworked the contract with Disney to exclude PlayStation...and now it's releasing a few months later on that platform. Xbox leadership has no idea what they're doing lol."

The harshest critics claim Microsoft is simply throwing everything out there to see what sticks, and whether this strategy will come back to bite it in the backside remains to be seen. If there's any truth to the above, expect PlayStation owners to be pretty smug.
