Infinity Ward

Infinity Ward's time as lead Call of Duty developer has just a week left, with Modern Warfare 3 set to roll out in November with its Early Campaign Release where Sledgehammer Games will take control of the series and IW's flagship sub-section of the franchise.

But it appears that the team aren't resting on their laurels, even if they're not due back for a considerable number of years amid Treyarch's double-header.

It seems like Infinity Ward is already cooking up a secret Call of Duty game, and its ingredients are under lock and key.

Infinity Ward job postings hint towards their next secret Call of Duty game

As spotted by VeryAliGaming, Infinity Ward has been posting jobs concerning a new game.  The first of these jobs listed comes in the form of a Senior Online Engineer position, which is located at Infinity Ward's Woodland Hills studio in California. It describes the role as working on an "exciting unannounced title."

Another two listings for a Single Player Game Designer and a Rendering Engineer at Infinity Ward's studio in Kraków also hint towards a new title, with the former's job spec saying that they will work on the "next instalment of one of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed shooter franchises of all time."

Now if that's not Call of Duty, then Infinity Ward has some rather interesting moves up its sleeve. The latter of the posts also says one element of the role is to create "cutting edge rendering technology for our next AAA title" and eludes to using console technology that is not yet available.

This is further insinuating that this could be Call of Duty 2026, the year after the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles have both been pencilled in for.

Did Infinity Ward just confirm Call of Duty 2026?

So far, Infinity Ward has only ever been a developing studio on the Call of Duty franchise, and despite now being owned by Microsoft, it's more than likely that it will continue to be exclusive to the arcade shooter series. It's not impossible that this could be a different AAA series under Microsoft's wing (maybe Halo), but rather improbable.

Instead, this is likely the rumblings of Call of Duty 2026. What this game entails is yet to be known, though.  Previously, Infinity Ward claimed that they were not done with the Modern Warfare series, but has also eluded to a Simon "Ghost" Riley-centric spin-off idea, which could either fit within the main series or even as a standalone title.

The upcoming Modern Warfare 3 campaign might offer some more small hints at where the series goes next for Infinity Ward, but for now, it looks like they're already locking down the foundational pieces for a new game.
