An insider has claimed Metroid Prime 4 is basically finished and that there's only one thing that the game's team is waiting on to plan a launch.

Even though Metroid fans were fed well in 2023, they're already looking to the future. To be fair, it's hard to blame them.  The series finally left a quiet dormancy over the course of the last few years, shocking fans with a brand-new adventure in Metroid Dread, and then stunning players with a remaster of Metroid Prime.

As fans continue to wait for the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, they're starting to get itchy, and even a little suspicious of Nintendo's plans. According to new leaks, these suspicions aren't entirely without grounds.

Insider claims that Metroid Prime 4 is basically done

Samus braces for an attack from Ridley from above in Metroid Prime Remastered.

New claims have indicated that fans' long wait for Metroid Prime 4 is partly for nothing, as Nintendo is sitting behind the scenes with a near-finished product.

According to leaker PapaGenos in his Discord (via the GamingLeaksandRumours Reddit), "The thing is I've heard Prime 4 is basically done and has been for a while, but the cutscenes are apparently really bad (or were a few months ago) so that's what was delaying the game."

He continues to add, "I know it's been 'basically in a finished state' for a while with the delay being related to needing to polish up the cutscenes had me hopeful we could see it soon but again so far I have heard nothing about what Nintendo could bring to The Game Awards."

It's an interesting claim, and given that we typically don't learn much about the development of Nintendo games, it's difficult to dispute. And as such, fans have a new theory.

Could Metroid Prime 4 be waiting for the next Nintendo console?

Samus seizes in shock in Metroid Prime Remastered.

A few fans have pointed out that this waiting likely isn't for nothing, even beyond the cutscenes that still need patching up - some think that Nintendo is holding off on the launch of Metroid Prime 4 so that it can make it a launch title for whatever console the company is cooking up right now. Remember, we've heard a lot about a Switch 2/Pro

It's a compelling theory, and until the game is revealed, we won't know. In the meantime, conspiracies are all we have. Metroid Prime 4 has been in the works for so long, that players are clearly starting to grasp at straws. Maybe, if we cross our fingers and wish very hard, Metroid Prime 4 will stop being a mere myth.
