Insomniac Games is sharpening its adamantium claws, as it's nearly time to start getting hyped for the untitled Wolverine game. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is just around the corner, and although we expect there will be some post-release content, it'll soon be time to assemble our gaming Avengers for Wolverine.
While Insomniac was once known for the Ratchet & Clank, it's helped breathe new life into the once-maligned genre of superhero action-adventure titles alongside Rocksteady's Arkham games. Following the success of Spider-Man and hype surrounding the sequel, there's also a lot riding on Wolverine.
Insomniac gives us a long-waited Wolverine update
According to TCMF Games, production has fully started on Wolverine. The Spider-Man 2 team is reportedly moving over to the next comic book IP, with Senior Cinematic Animator Tommy Mann apparently going full steam ahead on Wolverine to get things moving quickly.
Mann recently shared his excitement about starting on Wolverine, telling his fans, "I can not wait for people to play #SpiderMan2PS5. Working on that game with so many amazing people was a lot of fun. However, today I get to start something new. #WolverinePS5."
Although unconfirmed by Insomniac itself, there's word that Wolverine is targeting a late 2024 release date. Then again, remember that Spider-Man 2 was originally supposed to launch earlier this year before being delayed to October 20. Considering we've seen nothing of Wolverine, a 2024 release seems ambitious.
What do we know about Insomniac's Wolverine?
Despite being announced during 2021's Gamescom via a brief cinematic, there's been literally no update on Wolverine. To be fair to Wolverine, the team has been pretty busy getting Spider-Man 2 as great as it looks.
The big question is whether Wolverine will be connected to Spider-Man and Insomniac will build out from its own Marvel Gaming Universe. 2018's Spider-Man referenced everyone from Doctor Strange to Black Panther, with various Daredevil Easter eggs hoping for a Daredevil game from the beloved developer.
Rumours suggest that Wolverine will be a bloodier affair that is heading for an M release, while its storyline could focus on the titular Logan before he becomes a member of the X-Men. If it's a hit, could we get our dream of an Insomniac co-op X-Men game? Watch this space.
