There are a few things in GTA Online that, no matter what era of the game you're enduring or how bored you get, players will turn to.

If nothing else is doing it for you in Los Santos, there's always the chance to respray your favourite car, join in with the regular traffic in hopes of coming off as a regular citizen, and (obviously) chase down the train like you're performing a heist.

The train in GTA Online has been a frustrating missing link for some players, appearing on the map but never allowing players inside. Now, it looks like the tide is changing, as players are finally allowed to grace the inside of the long-inaccessible train in GTA V's online mode.

GTA Online finally lets you drive the train

The Freight Train from GTA 5.

The railroads are no longer the land promised to NPCs looking to get squished, as players have discovered that the latest update to GTA Online has allowed them inside the train for the first time since the multiplayer game’s launch.

The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid is finally here, and the heist will eventually lead you to attempt a getaway with your all-important cargo - and the train is the perfect vehicle for this.

Players will actually man the train itself after almost a decade of being out of bounds, and though it's a relatively short-lived part of the mission, it doesn't matter. Players are in the train, and that's more than enough reason to celebrate.

GTA Online's train access is pretty meagre

Trevor falls from a derailing train in GTA 5.

The train runs across Los Santos and will practically get you from end-to-end on the map if you're patient enough, making it a big part of keeping the world of GTA V lively. Still, the core game only offers players one chance to explore it: in the Derailed mission with Trevor and Michael.

You'd think that the game would be more than willing to let players jump in, especially as they can access the city-wide tram and steal buses and taxis around the map. Still, at least we've got something now.
