Let's be honest, we'll do anything we can to get a leg up in Elden Ring right now. Despite being warned this is the biggest and most brutal FromSoftware game to grace the Souls-like genre, nothing prepared us for how gruelling our journey across the Lands Between would be.

Unlike previous entries like Bloodborne, levelling up isn't automatic in Elden Ring, meaning you have to be more tactical about where and when to spend your runes. Although you can get runes from cutting down the various gods and monsters that populate this rancid realm, you'll also know it's just as easy to lose them. So, any easy way to earn runes would come in handy.

How Are Elden Ring Players Farming Runes?

Even farming runes can be a laborious task when you plough even more hours into Elden Ring's already chonky playtime. Others have found a way to step away from the keyboard while farming runes, which means you can pop off to the shops while your Tarnished reaps the rune rewards. This obviously hasn't sat well with those doing things the old fashioned way.

One devious lick involves using Torrent to jump to hard to reach areas in Limgrave, then using Taunter's Tongue to lure in PvP enemies. Given that you can't use horses once multiplayer is triggered, they won't be able to reach the AFK farmer. If the attackers get sick of the AFK host, they'll usually jump off a cliff to escape. When this happens, the camper will get a number of runes based on the enemy's level. AFK farmers are also using the White Cipher Ring to summon allies and earn even more runes.

It's a frustrating situation that angry gamers are begging FromSoft to patch out. Unfortunately, videos on YouTube about "how to farm 1,000,000 runes by doing nothing" are only making the situation worse. Don't worry though, there's a way to serve some piping hot justice.

How Can You Stop Rune Famers?

The Elden Ring subreddit is currently stocked with inventive ways to pummel those sneaky rune farmers. One particularly popular method involves jumping off a cliff and using Agheel's Flame to transform into a dragon. Going full Game of Thrones, you can then fly to the AFK farmer and torch them like a marshmallow. As pointed out by Kotaku, the Hand of Malenia katana can be your best friend in navigating out of these situations.

Finally, it's possible to Waterfowl Dance your way up onto a ledge and take out a farmer. Now that the tables have turned, the farmers have become the farmees. One happy gamer wrote: "With my dragon breath strat and the physick I still keep all the souls and don’t have to go bother picking them up every time I die after killing the host. At the end of the day, there are much better places to farm runes without p*ssing off other players.
