Kirby Just Won The Most Unproblematic Grammy Ever

A Kirby track just won big at the Grammys, proving that video game music is just as worthy as any other genre to be recognised by awards shows.

Kirby is actually pretty talented when you think about it.

They're a seasoned fighter, talented at riding minecarts, a fantastic chef, not to mention their freaky ability to swallow foes and replicate their talents - there's little Kirby can't do. And with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, they've proven themselves to be quite the fearless adventurer too.

And now, it seems like they've got a whole new title under their belt - official Grammy winner.

Kirby Has Won A Grammy (Kind Of)

The Grammys last night were a glitzy affair, bringing the entire music (and some comedy) world together to celebrate the best releases of the last year, and the best artists at work right now (and Louis CK) - but apparently, it had a chance to celebrate some video games by proxy too.

Kirby is now technically a Grammy winner, as musicians, Charlie Rosen and Jake Silverman took home the Grammy for their cover of the Kirby track Meta Knight's Revenge.

The award was won in the best arrangement, instrumental or acapella category, and was awarded specifically to Rosen and Silverman's video-game themed project The 8-Bit Big Band.

The song is a jazzy take on the Kirby Superstar classic, and by our estimation, it was absolutely deserving of the award.

The 8-Bit Big Band Has Covered More Video Game Classics

It doesn't end simply with Meta Knight's Revenge, either, as the 8-Bit Big Band's discography has covered a number of video game classics.

They've covered both Still Alive and Want You Gone from the Portal series, Dire Dire Docks from Super Mario 64 and Jump Up Super Star from Super Mario Odyssey, along with the likes of Fire Emblem Fates and Pilotwings 64 getting some jazzy representation in the band's 2021 album Backwards Compatible.

The tracks bang hard, and it's clear that they've earned themselves - and Nintendo - some solid representation from the Grammys. Video game music deserves to be much more respected than it is, and this could be a step towards the medium being taken a little more seriously. At the very least, the chances that we will soon see Kirby splashed across the front pages for anything other than his gaming and musical feats are next to none.
