Konami Promises To Resurrect 'World-Loved' Franchise At Tokyo Game Show

Despite criticisms that Konami has let its legacy franchises lie dormant, there are rife rumours that it's going to bring back a 'world-loved' franchise at Tokyo Game Show.

Oh, here we go again. Is Silent Hill staying silent, will Castlevania ever sink its fangs into fans again, and is there still a "Snake" in the grass with Metal Gear? Back in the day, Konami was THE developer to look out for, but in 2022, it's a shadow of its former self amidst cancelled projects and lacklustre sequels.

Ever since Hideo Kojima parted ways with Konami to set up Kojima Productions, things have never been the same. These days, Konami is known for sports games and Dance Dance Revolution - which is a far cry from pioneering the stealth genre and scaring us to death with survival horrors. Konami is tipped to rise from the ashes at Tokyo Games Show, but the question is, with what?

Is Konami Working On A New Game?

As reported by Gematsu, a "world-loved" Konami franchise is about to be brought back in a big way. This comes after Konami opened its Tokyo Game Show site and promised that it will be holding its own showcase on September 16.

Although some have given up on even hoping for something big from Konami again, this seemingly minor update has piqued everyone's interest and sent the rumour mill spinning. Diving into what the mystery announcement could be, take note that voice actor Yuki Kaji will be there to make it.

Away appearing in the likes of Grand Theft Auto V and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it's his Konami CV that deserves looking at. Kaji has three Konami games under his belt, with one being the Japan-only Terror of the Stratus that launched on the PSP in 2011. More interestingly, he gave his talents to two Suikoden titles.

Is There Still Hope For Silent Hill And Metal Gear?

Silent Hill Dog Ending

There hasn't been a Suikoden game since 2012, but given Konami's *erm* lengthy release between games, that's not exactly unheard of. Remember, it's also been a decade since we last saw a Silent Hill game. Giving hope that it's not Suikoden, remember that the original team that worked on it is releasing Eiyuden Chronicle as a spiritual successor next year.

Let's also not forget 2022 is the 35th anniversary of Metal Gear. Even if there's plenty of love for Solid Snake, the big one would be Silent Hill. For what seems like an eternity, there's been talk of multiple Silent Hill releases, including remakes and reboots. Because Kaji's appearance is to "represent fans," let's hope it's something a little bigger than Suikoden. Then again, knowing our luck, it'll be some sort of Bomberman reboot. Watch this space and prepare for disappointment.
