Over the last few years, cosmetics have become one of the most heated topics in the Call of Duty community, with Activision drifting further and further away from the Mil-Sim aesthetic.
Whether it's anime Operators, flashy crossovers with popular TV shows, or even the ability to transform into a giant humanoid rat, there's no longer any attempt to preserve a strict military theme.
For some, this is brilliant as there are always new colourful and exciting new skins to collect. However, for others, it's a disappointing direction for the franchise to be taking, and it's killing their love for the series.
Well, this frustration from Mil-Sim fans has only reached a new level in Season 4 Reloaded, as "laser cats" are now completely taking over MW2 multiplayer.
Laser cats are taking over MW2 multiplayer
Taking to the ModernWarfareII subreddit, user u/exileonwoodct showcased themselves using the laser eyes finishing move on an enemy, with the cat Operator skin equipped. This combo has become increasingly common in multiplayer recently, with the feline bundle and The Boys crossover cosmetics being immensely popular.
While a lot of users in the thread found a cat with superpowers incredibly funny, others were less amused that this is possible in Call of Duty.
"I can't believe this is what COD has become," said one frustrated player, with another arguing "It all comes down to money... You’re not going to entice the 12-year-olds to drop $20 on a realistic skin months after release."
Someone even went as far as to slam those who think laser cats are amusing, claiming that "promoting or being excited about this is wild man... This is not what we should be doing if we are truly fans of cod, the franchise is lost."
How much is the cat Operator bundle in MW2?
The Cat Operator bundle, otherwise known as Whisker Tango, costs 2,400 CoD points in the MW2 store. It comes with the SGT. Sprinkles and the SGT. PSPSPS Operator skins as well as two weapon blueprints.
Despite backlash from a lot of the community, the feline-themed cosmetics have been immensely popular. This shows that not everyone is particularly angry about Activision's departure from the military theme.
Heading into MW3, it seems likely that the designers will continue to release flashy skins and crossovers, as they never fail to garner a huge amount of attention and revenue.
