It's quite strange that a single game mode can define the entire feel of a Call of Duty title, but Capture the Flag does. It might not have been the most thrilling game mode in the recent era, but it is making a triumphant return in Modern Warfare 2, according to eagle-eyed fans, and it brings a wealth of positives to the game.

Capture the Flag was once one of the most beloved game modes in Call of Duty, especially around the Black Ops 2 era, yet in recent years it has been failed by the developers and recently discarded.

Now, Modern Warfare 2 looks set to bring it back to life.

Capture the Flag Icon Spotted in CoD: Next Teaser

Ahead of the Call of Duty: Next showcase, a premiered exhibition that will reveal what is in store for the future of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, a string of teasers have been sprinkled on social media.

The latest snippet has shown off some emblems in-game, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted the badge of Capture the Flag, confirming its homecoming.

Capture the Flag was also joined by Domination, the two flag-based objective game modes.

Why Is Capture The Flag So Important For Modern Warfare 2?

Capture the Flag is a game mode that can have a direct influence on the design of a map. Yes, Domination, Hardpoint, and Search and Destroy will likely be taken into consideration when the developers are crunching the designs, but CTF also plays a role, and will likely see the classic three-lane map design become quite prevalent again.

Modern Warfare 2's reintroduction of the classic game mode not only means that it's been tried and tested to be a success on the three-lane maps that are core to Call of Duty multiplayer, it could also bode well for the esports scene given the instability of the CDL's third game mode.

The game mode will join the likes of Ground War and Infected in Modern Warfare 2, which will add a sprinkle of diversity to the standard shenanigans.
