After an indecisive victory against the bottom-ranked LCK team Nongshim Redforce with a score of 2-1, T1's League of Legends superstar Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok has opened up about an injury which he says has been affecting his play.
In the post-match press conference, the midlaner shared that arm pain had been plaguing him since the series against OKSavingsBank Brion in Week 2 of the LCK. What kind of injury Faker is suffering from is currently unknown, but he's apparently, in the process of seeking treatment.
Recent struggles
While T1 had dominated the Spring Regular Season of the LCK, going on a 17-1 run, the team showed good but not great results during the Summer Season so far.
Currently sitting at a score of 6-2, the team only dropped games against direct competitors for the top, Gen.G and KT Rolster. The latter match now appears in a different light given that it took place in Week 3, therefore during the period which Faker outlined to have been affected by his injury.
During the press conference, Faker shared that he felt the injury had impacted his performance. In the upcoming fifth week of the LCK, T1 is set to play DRX and rival Gen.G and a peak-performing Faker would be of great benefit to the struggling T1 side.
The severity of Faker's injury is currently unknown, though the player shared during the press conference that he's seeking additional medical assistance.
No easy solutions
While T1 technically has a substitute midlaner in coach Kim "Sky" Ha-neul, the team had only nominated him to comply with Riot Games' substitute rules for the Mid-Season Invitational in May of this year.
T1's LoL General Manager, Jeong "becker" Hoi-yoon will be hosting his monthly live stream for which fans can send in questions. Considering the concern fans have shown for Faker's health, it could be expected that the developing situation will be addressed during the stream.
In 2020, T1 announced a partnership with South Korean commercial bank Hana Bank and it was revealed that his right hand had been ensured for KR₩1 billion (~$746,000 USD).
