It finally happened, Hogwarts Legacy has made it into the hands of Harry Potter fans, and they couldn't be happier with it.
The issues with shelling out for the game may still be very real, but for many, it doesn't outweigh the urge to satiate nostalgia and take to the hallowed halls of Hogwarts as a student of magic.
Hogwarts Legacy has uncovered a new corner of the Wizarding World's mythos for many fans, and it's done wonders for opening up the universe. Following the game's success, other fandoms are getting jealous.
Gamers Want A Lord Of The Rings Version Of Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy players have taken to the game's subreddit to discuss the potential of the framework of the magical romp - theorising what other franchises could do with the Legacy treatment.
The first IP they've pointed out could do with a game similar to Hogwarts Legacy could be something based on The Lord of the Rings. It should be relatively easy as another fantasy rager that fans have been begging for a new game of.
"I wish Warner Bros could do The Lord of the Rings game similar to Hogwarts Legacy as they still own the rights," says user Matej1889. "Imagine Lord of the Rings game like Hogwarts but with better quests and real impact on the world, it would be awesome!"
Others agreed in the comments, excited by the prospect. It's hard to fault them, to be fair - a new RPG set in Middle Earth would truly go down a treat. But it might not be that simple.
The Lord Of The Rings’ Rights Aren’t In The Hands Of Warner Bros
Sadly, the original poster missed one detail that would get in the way of the potential of a new The Lord of the Rings game in the same vein as Hogwarts Legacy. That’s because Warner Bros. doesn't own the rights to the franchise.
Last year, the rights for JRR Tolkien were purchased by Embracer Group, which now owns the opportunity to develop video games, board games, merchandise, theme parks and stage productions based on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
So it looks like a LOTR RPG could be a way off - and from an entirely different side of the industry. It might be worth sticking to Hogwarts for the time being.
