Esports athletes, much like sporting icons and celebrities, are public figures that set examples for their fans on how to operate within the community. Without directly knowing, albeit their awareness should be heightened by the organisations they represent, esports professionals need to maintain a high level of competence in public matches, which is why one League of Legends player has been fined one month's wages and has been forced to apologise to one of the worlds greatest players.

Faker Left Fuming at Fellow Pro For Throwing SoloQ Games

Three-time World Champion and arguably the best League of Legends player ever, Lee "Faker" Sang-Hyeok, was left fuming by a teammate in the Korean SoloQ ladder, as his top-lane teammate was intentionally throwing the game by repeatedly dying and leaving the team one player down in skirmishes, before spamming the surrender vote.

The random player operating Aatox ended the game with a disastrous 0-16 record, feeding gold and CS to their opponents, causing the half an hour-long game to swing in the favour of the opposition, much to the annoyance of Faker.

Having waited until the end of the game to report the top laner, Faker was astonished to find out that the disasterclass was the work of Chinese pro Yu "Qingtian" Zi-Han, a substitute for Top Esports.

Having been stunned at the behaviour from a fellow professional, Faker told his stream that he would boycott playing SoloQ if he encountered any more players turning in toxic performances, especially Chinese players ruining the standard of the Korean super server ladder - a threat that would come with large ramifications for Riot Games due to his overwhelming influence on the playerbase.

Top Esports' Qingtian Docked A Month's Wages For SoloQ Fiasco

Having caused quite the stir within the eastern regions, Qingtian was forced to publically apologise with a statement posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

"I deeply realise the mistake I've made. As a pro player, I should consciously maintain the gaming environment," the apology reads, before adding an extra admission towards the nine players within the aforementioned game, including Faker.

Top Esports also took to Weibo to express that they are working with Riot Games to punish the player, confirming that a month's wages will be docked.

"We will cooperate with the league in investigating this matter, and based on the league's punishment rules, we will deduct his salary this month," the organisation said.

Riot Games has also banned the player from appearing in the next two matches in the LPL, and have fined the player 9.7m Won (roughly $8,000).

The top-laner has yet to feature in the League of Legends Pro League this season, meaning the two-match ban will likely only become a problem if his replacement Huang "Wayward" Ren-Xing needs to be subbed out. Having lost his place to Wayward after featuring in all of Top Esports' 2021 LPL Summer Split fixtures, it's certainly been a few months to forget for the Chinese player.
