YouTuber Ludwig "Ludwig" Ahgren has issued an apology following his viral review of new blockbuster The Batman being slammed as the "the worst Batman take" on Twitter.
There's no denying that Ludwig is one of the most popular streamers in the world. Having kickstarted his career over on Twitch, he has slowly been growing his status over on YouTube, after signing exclusively with the platform in November 2021. However, that hasn't stopped him from landing himself in hot water with fans. For example, many blamed Ludwig for prompting Twitch to crack down on DMCA issues and we still haven't forgiven him for slating Nando's.
The YouTuber has now had to apologise after a clip of him giving an unenthusiastic review of The Batman ended up going viral on Twitter and prompted a heated debate from movie-goers.
What Did Ludwig Say Which Got Twitter So Angry?
On March 6, Twitter user "Batman101" posted a short clip taken from Ludwig's YouTube stream the day before, in which he shared his thoughts about DC's highly-anticipated The Batman, which was officially released on March 4. Described by Batman101 as "the worst Batman take [he'd] ever heard," Ludwig went on to say that he thought The Batman was "fine," but he thought "it would be more fun."
In the clip, Ludwig explained: "In my mind, if you have what is supposed to be a vigilante detective Batman and a guy whose name is The Riddler, you should probably have what is fun, fun in like Sherlock Holmes and Knives Out way. I thought it'd be like that."
The clip went on to receive 1 million views as Batman fans flocked to share their responses to Ludwig's controversial take. For example, one viewer who disagreed with Ludwig responded: "Marvel's really overtaken the genre of "superhero" and that's hella annoying. Some fans don't really seem to grasp the more dark and intense tone the DC Universe executes." However, there were some who supported Ludwig's views.
Ludwig Apologises For Controversial The Batman Take
Following the backlash, Ludwig took to YouTube to issue an apology on March 7, to explain his take on The Batman in more detail. However, he proclaimed that he should be allowed "to speak [his] sh*t." Ludwig continued: "The Batman movie was mid. All superhero movies are mid." He further claimed that studios continue to keep "milking" superhero films featuring characters like Batman, despite the character being "solved" by 2008's The Dark Knight.
Ludwig stressed that he thought The Batman was "fine", just "not amazing." Although he praised Zoë Kravitz's performance as Catwoman, he thought Robert Pattinson was "wasted." However, it doesn't look like Ludwig has done anything to dampen The Batman hype as the film continues to dominate cinemas, pulling in a whopping $128.5 million at the North American box office during its opening weekend.
As he brought the video to an end, Ludwig claimed that the main thing he's learnt from the backlash was that DC fans are "brutal, savages" when it comes to defending films based on the caped crusader.
