Dark Souls 2 servers on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be shutting down at the end of March 2024.
While online servers will no longer be available, offline play will still be possible.
Dark Souls 2 Servers are shutting down
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dark Souls 2 servers will be closing early next year.
A tweet on the Dark Souls Twitter account said: “The Dark Souls 2 PS3 and Xbox 360 servers will shut down on March 31, 2024.”
“A message stating that online play is disabled will be displayed. Offline play will still be possible.
“PC, PS4 & Xbox One servers will not be affected. Thank you to those who have played since launch.
“The servers will close at 5:00 PDT | 14:00 CEST | 21:00 JST. Thank you for your comprehension and support.”
Players are devastated that online play will no longer be available
Though it may seem surprising given that we are two console generations past the PS3 and Xbox 360, there is seemingly still an active player base on Dark Souls 2 on these platforms.
On Twitter, one user wrote: “I got my platinum on PS3 a few months ago for both. I was surprised to find activity on both. Helped a few with bosses. A few helped me with bosses. Good times were had.”
Therefore, it is not entirely surprising that both current and old players are mourning the loss of the servers.
One Dark Souls fan said: “This destroys me goodbye sweet child you will be missed.”
Another added: “Farewell loved one.”
Though it is sad to see the death of game servers on older platforms, it is not unexpected that we will have to say goodbye eventually.
