We've not heard much from Marvel's Wolverine since Insomniac Games announced it back in 2021. Well, we've not heard much in terms of official news from the developer. We've been kept on rations, and even then, it's largely to do with leaks.

Insomniac was recently struck by a supposed ransomware attack, which has revealed everything from characters to where the superhero title will be set. As these leaks slip out onto the internet, there's an interesting hint of a surprise location that could be giving our clawed Canadian a blast from the past.

Wolverine leaks hint at a surprising setting

X-Men Origins Wolverine World War II

Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, someone picked up on a blink-and-you'll-miss-it spoiler that suggests at least part of Marvel's Wolverine will be set during World War II. Logan ages differently to the rest of us thanks to his regenerative abilities, meaning he's led quite a colourful life.

Some of the leaked images seemingly line up with real-life historical buildings from WWII, so it's possible we visit this time period at some point in Wolverine. Whether it's a full-blown level that takes a leaf out of Call of Duty's book or a smaller flashback, we're excited to see what Insomniac is cooking up.

When one fan cheered, "What I'd give to kill nazis as Wolverine," another added, "Resistance vibes from Insomniac." A third gushed, "Please tell me we're gonna get a full on Ultimate Marvel-style flashback with Cap and Logan."

Captain America could appear in Marvel's Wolverine

Captain America and Wolverine in World War II

We've previously seen Wolverine fight in the trenched during a flashback montage near the start of the maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He's also fought in WWII in the comics, memorably teaming up with Captain America in the likes of Uncanny X-Men #268 and Wolverine: Origins.

With Wolvie potentially revisiting this piece of history, there's definitely a chance we'll see a certain star-spangled Avengers. Insomniac has become the master of building an expanded universe, with its Spider-Man games referencing everyone from Black Panther to Doctor Strange.

Even if Steve Rogers doesn't directly appear in Marvel's Wolverine, we hope there's at least an Easter egg honouring him. Either way, we're expecting some pretty major cameos, with there already being a potential nod to Hulk and whispers that Peter Parker could be stopping by.

Remembering Wolverine's blood-soaked history, there are high hopes that Insomniac can deliver something different to its Spider-Man games, while still keeping what we've loved about Peter and Miles' adventures. If we are hitting the trenches of World War II, you can bet the claws will be out.
