The Metal Gear series has lay dormant for some time now. The franchise kicked off back in 1987 under the watchful eye of Konami and video game auteur Hideo Kojima, and has since snowballed into something of video game legend. Solid Snake is one of gaming's most beloved protagonists and is exactly the type of layered character that exemplifies Kojima's work, just as Death Stranding's Sam Bridges has afterwards.
But now, after a long period of quiet, it looks like more Metal Gear might not be as impossible as we previously thought.
Metal Gear Is Teasing Something
Interesting.
It looks like Metal Gear has something to share with fans, just in time for the series' 35th anniversary.
Konami has set up a new website for the anniversary, which right now, has something of a curious display. The only thing you'll find upon opening metalgear35th.com is the trademark "alert" exclamation, with its point replaced by "35th".
There's no telling what this could mean, or what could be on the way, but all we can do is hope that Konami isn't looking to take the way of Bandai Namco with their Castlevania anniversary NFTs.
What Is The Metal Gear Suprise?
There's no way of knowing exactly what this could be, but there are a few things that are being theorised by fans. It was rumoured for some time that developers Virtuos are looking at remaking Metal Gear Solid 3, so this reveal could be an initial announcement for it, with the original game being stuck in something of a copyright limbo.
There's also a Metal Gear movie in the works with Oscar Isaac rumoured to be lined up to star as Snake, and we're yet to have any official confirmation that the project exists - so this could be the perfect time for the movie to come to the forefront.
We may have to wait until the fateful day, but something may be on the way from Konami very soon. A lot of fans are unsure about a Metal Gear project without Kojima behind the wheel, but Konami knows how huge a deal the franchise is. No matter what this announcement is, there'll be an audience for it - and we're curious to see what comes of the site.
