Alternative culture and video games have always had a special connection. With Avenged Sevenfold and Iron Maiden developing titles that build further on their mythos, while Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy take up some pretty important roles in BrĂ¼tal Legend, there's clearly something special tying the mediums together.
Be it a love of video games alone or a deeper creative connection, we're always more than happy to hear it. And now, a new project has come from tech-metal icons - and it could be the most advanced presentation of that connection yet.
TesseracT announces Early Access for War of Being
To coincide with the newly announced album and recently unleashed title track, tech titans TesseracT have revealed War for Being: Explore the Strangeland, a brand-new tie-in experience for fans to poke around in.
To go with the album of the same name, War for Being is an immersive sci-fi adventure that welcomes fans into the throes of the Strangeland, the bizarre world that serves as the creative concept for the record itself that is set to be released on September 15.
"It's a dream come true to be able to produce a computer game based upon my own music and it's such an exciting opportunity to help spearhead a new crossover medium for music and gaming consumption," said the band's lead singer Daniel Tompkins. "I can't wait to see where it leads us."
War of Being is a desktop and VR game made in UE5
As a first for musical video game innovations from established artists, the new experience from TesseracT will be playable on both desktop and in VR via Steam, as well as notably being developed in Unreal Engine 5.
The project is incredibly impressive, and it's truly fascinating to see how this upcoming album has been adapted to such a medium. If you've ever wanted to live in a physical manifestation of big Drop A open notes, you've found just the experience.
