Things could be heating up in Minecraft, as it looks like Mojang could have plans to add a feature we've been waiting years for. Even 13 years after the blocky builder's first release, the team is hard at work keeping it just as relevant as ever. As the best-selling game of all time, you can hardly blame Mojang.
Minecraft lets us build until our heart's content, with a variety of different biomes mixing things up. From creating lush jungles to arid deserts, there's even the chance to explore snowy beaches and dark forests. With so many fantasy settings, many are asking where the real-world occurrence of volcanoes is.
Mojang teases Minecraft volcanoes
In a new tease, Mojang shared a Minecraft map with a number of topological features. All the usuals like cliffs and waterfalls (although we don't have full-sized ones) are here, however, eagle-eyed gamers noticed the inclusion of a potential volcano biome. We've seen the occasional attempt at volcano mods, but they've never made it very far.
It's true that the image is just honouring the one used in school textbooks, but when the image was shared on Reddit, fans quickly went wild that we could soon be getting volcanoes after years of asking. Someone cheered, "If we get volcanos we have to be able to summon a dark god by pushing villagers into it from a height of 23 blocks."
Another added, "If they add a volcano, I hope it actually has a proper eruption mechanic, not just a mountain with some lava pools that will flow downhill," while a third concluded, "Volcanoes should have been in the game since forever ago, I hope this is some sort of announcement…."
Others suggest it's a map update, while some think we're just barking up the wrong tree. We've previously seen players champion the idea of volcanoes on Reddit, with several pointing out how the fact Tuff is made out of volcanic ash is the biggest indication that volcanoes could be introduced.
There are plenty of features you'd like to see added in the 1.22 update, while the Mojang map could be a first tease of what's to come. Exploration is the name of the game in Minecraft, and while we imagine the game would stutter to a halt if we got fully erupting volcanoes, we'll take what we can get if they're on the way in any form.
