Talk about a price hike. If you've started saving to buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2022, we hope you're living in the USA. According to worrying reports online, the price you pay for the next chapter in the CoDverse's troubled tenure completely depends on where in the world you live.

Many moons ago, you used to be able to grab the latest Call of Duty release for the $50/£50 mark. However, as we've moved into a new generation and the likes of Sony's Jim Ryan have pushed for a $70/£70 standard, it's becoming the norm. If you were already vexed about paying an extra tenner to play on PS5 and Xbox Series than you paid for Vanguard last year, just be glad you don't live in Argentina.

Why Is Modern Warfare 2 More Expensive In Some Countries?

Posting on Reddit, u/PaP3s pointed out how the Steam price of Modern Warfare 2 is being massively marked up in some countries. While the suggested price for this year's AAA shooter on Steam is ₺109 in Turkey, the platform actually has it listed at ₺699. That's a whopping 541% increase. Still, spare a thought for those in Argentina, who have to endure an astronomical hike of 820%.

Canada has a smaller makeup of 13%, but if you're in Costa Rica, you'll still be paying half again with a 52% increase. Other big offenders include Kazakhstan (221%), India (233%), and Indonesia (242%). Although a markup is apparently common on CoD games in different countries, this one seems extortionately high. In general, there were complaints that even when there's a Steam sale on, CoD games over 10 years old still clock in at over $20.

Responding to the thread, there were some worried comments. One Redditor wrote, "These numbers feel more like damage buffs than regional price differences," while another added, "A lot of companies actually ignore the Valve suggested pricing but rarely are they selling their games at such a whooping high rate in accordance to it. Expected from Activision." A third concluded: "I'm from Argentina and here the price is absolute IMPOSsIBLE to pay, also here we pay 65% of taxes. Literally impossible to buy."

Will Modern Warfare 2 Come Down In Price?

Sadly, it looks like these prices are going to stick. They're reportedly sat like this for weeks, meaning Argentinians could be out of luck when it comes to playing Price's next adventure on the cheap. Publishers ignoring Valve's suggestions is nothing new, but we've got to admit this is one of the biggest extremes we've seen.

Over here, there have already been complaints about the different editions and prices of the game. Even on last-gen consoles it's boasting a $70 price tag, while things also scale up to the Vault Edition costing a chonky $110. For that, you get the likes of beta access, a season of the battle pass, tier skips, and the Red Team Operator pack  It's a fair bit more, but is it really worth the extra moolah? Oh well, at least you aren't living in Argentina and paying $900 for it!
