With the number of games out there at the moment and thousands of characters to be found in this endless list of titles, it’s hard to create unique faves and bodies year after year, game after game.
But Call of Duty has often been accused of ripping off other series’ protagonists, or sourcing inspiration from places they shouldn’t, and they seem to be in hot water again.
Ahead of the Modern Warfare 3 Beta, fans are accusing Sledgehammer Games of creating an almost identical character to Rainbow 6’s Blackbeard.
Modern Warfare 3 fans think the devs have stolen a Rainbow Six character
The Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer reveal has split opinions. On the one hand, Herschel "Dr Disrespect" Baehm slammed it for favouring a catwalk of skins over gameplay. On the other, mil-sim lovers have been caught swooning over the new-look Operator line-up.
Now though, fans are calling out that MW3 has ripped off Blackbeard from R6, with everything down from the cut of his beard to the shad of beige he dons being pretty spot on.
Taking to a Reddit post, one fan said, "I'm sorry but that is legit just Blackbeard from R6, im not the only one who sees it right?"
This was instantly echoed by another fan saying "you are not alone."
Modern Warfare 3 fans actually like the rip-off Rainbow Six character
Some fans did argue that although the resemblance is quite uncanny, its not too unusual to see a big bulky bearded man in camo uniforms.
"He’s using a pretty generic US SOF kit and the devs do whatever they want with camo these days. But he for sure looks like Blackbeard haha," said one fan.
"He got tired of being the worst operator in Siege and decided to go elsewhere," joked another fan.
Yet again, those mil-sim loving fans are eager to get their hands on him regardless of how poor his R6 reputation is.
"Only operator from the trailer I'm somewhat looking forward to getting my hands on," added a further fan.
As long as the unnamed character performs better than Blackbeard, it seems that Call of Duty are accepting the rip-off with open arms.
